Dr. Michael Lax uses a number of effective treatment approaches to help relieve pain from soft tissue conditions, improve joint biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The techniques he chooses to use are based on his clinical judgment and 30+ years of experience.
Dr. Michael Lax will conduct an in-depth analysis of your spine to identifying which vertebrae have lost their normal motion. A specific manual thrust is applied to free the restricted joints, an adjusting style commonly referred to as “Diversified.” The direction, speed, depth and angle of thrust used are the result of years of experience, practice and a thorough understanding of spinal mechanics. The energy delivered during the thrust may produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint. This sound may be interesting, but is not a guide as to the value or effectiveness of the adjustment.
While improving spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interferences, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion.
Chiropractic Biophysics® (CBP®)
Chiropractic Biophysics® (Clinical Biomechanics of Posture®, or CBP®) is focused on producing improved posture, balance, spinal alignment and restoration of essential spinal curves. As your spine and posture resume more normal alignment, long-standing symptoms diminish and health can return.
The Ideal Spine
First, Dr. Lax will do a thorough assessment of your postural alignment, and correlate this information with pictures of your spine. He will then compare these findings with published standards of ‘ideal’ spinal alignment, and point out any deviations he sees. These findings will direct his specific recommendations for care.
Corrective Care Protocol
After your pain or other symptoms have resolved, Dr. Lax will offer you the opportunity to improve or correct any spinal or postural alignment problems that were detected from the physical exam and x-rays. Called ‘Corrective Care’, this is where dramatic, longer-lasting spinal changes are made. These objective and measureable spinal changes are obtained through a specific protocol of ‘mirror-image’ adjustments, ‘mirror-image’
traction and ‘mirror-image’exercise.
‘Mirror-image’ adjustments help to restore normal spinal position by ‘reprogramming’ the nervous system.
‘Mirror-image’ traction delivers a constant force to retrain ligaments and help remodel the spine to counter the effects of long-standing postural distortions.
‘Mirror-image’ exercises, designed for each patient’s particular spinal abnormality, are used to re-educate and strengthen weaker areas of the spine that are contributing to abnormal alignment.
Trigenics® is a manual assessment and treatment system which uses interactive applied functional neurology to reset the way the brain communicates with the body. The effect can be dramatic and rapid pain relief with near-instant increase in strength and movement. Trigenics® achieves this result by applying 3 treatment techniques simultaneously for an effect on the nervous system which is much greater than if each were applied individually.
Dr. Lax has been a Registered Trigenics Practitioner (RTP) since 2001.
The Arthrostim (or “Woody”, as Dr. Lax affectionately likes to call it) is a hand-held electronic adjusting instrument used to improve joint motion and joint neurology. Dr. Lax has found it to be particularly effective for patients such as infants, children, seniors and others who are apprehensive or may not tolerate manual, hands-on treatment techniques.
Laser treatment is a non-invasive method to help reduce acute and chronic pain. The gradual therapeutic deep tissue heating from laser relaxes muscle spasms and relieves pain from ‘soft tissue’ injuries, while speeding tissue healing and improving function.
Laser is also ideal for older patients to relieve pain caused by arthritis, flexion contractures and/or frozen and stiff joints, pain with movement and areas that would benefit from increased blood flow.
Whether you have been injured on the field, on the job and are suffering from an acute injury or chronic pain – you want the best and fastest results possible. Dr. Lax uses laser therapy to provide comfortable, effective and safe treatment for many soft tissues conditions. How effective? Over 4000 studies have been conducted on the benefits of laser. Numerous randomized double blind clinical trials have demonstrated the effectiveness (efficacy) of laser therapy on various health conditions.
Laser treatments take just minutes depending on the condition being treated. Patients may feel a soothing warmth as the therapy is administered and generally see results after a few treatments.
Benefits of Laser:
Painless, safe and non-invasive
Treats wide range of conditions
Relieves pain and stiffness
Custom orthotics are special shoe inserts individually made for a patient’s feet. They are prescribed by a health professional to assist in the control or correction of abnormal foot mechanics.
As the feet are the foundation of the body, incorrect foot function can effect alignment and function higher up the kinetic chain, causing such common problems as knee and hip pain, back pain and scoliosis.
Dr. Lax uses computerized foot and gait analysis, as well as traditional casting methods, to create the correct orthotics for his patients.
